A Word From Margo
Updated August, 2006

Hello!

As you can tell, I've been hard at work updating the Camelot section of the Future Heirlooms web site.  This area requires special attention to detail and research, far beyond what 'normal' web pages require as there are a growing number of cross references, an enormous 'dictionary', new entries from historians, archaeologists and others in care of 'traditional' Arthurian areas.  In addition, there are new designs to post and cross index, a new Camelot section that has just the quilt designs and not the history and well - you see the scope of this project has grown.  Adding to the mixture is that there are quite a few 'characters' within the legends of Camelot and, with the exception of a few sites, most would have at one time or another visited or been associated with all the areas detailed within this area of the Future Heirlooms web site.  I try to keep the selection of designs shown on each page as varied and interesting as possible while still keeping within 'historical' context.

My previous note (July 2005) gives more information about how this section came to be and hopefully, what it will include.  As I said then, this is a work in progress and I do hope that you will continue to enjoy exploring the world of Arthur and Camelot with me.

I've enjoyed the stories and legends of Arthur since I was very young and from what I hear each month from visitors to the Future Heirlooms web site, they also enjoy Camelot so I decided to greatly expand this area and it is a work that is constantly growing with the help of many people.
The last update was two years in the making.  Pictures of actual Arthurian sites were collected where possible, permission of the artists and photographers to use photo's, illustrations and text was obtained.  Facts were researched both in literature and through archaeology.  Quilt designs that (to me) fit the people and places within the legends were designed, edited and prepared for this new addition.
When I wrote before, it seemed well acknowledged that there was at least one King named Arthur who had bases on Cadbury Castle Mound in the South of England but evidence is now becoming almost overwhelming that he was born and based not far from Edinburgh Scotland.  This in no way detracts from the legends attached to places in the Southern portion of the country so they remain included.
He fought many battles or skirmishes beyond the ones listed here.  He had at least one and perhaps three wives all named Guenivere as well as children, both legitimate and illegitimate.  Arthur and those around him have become blended with ancient myth as well so that you will discover fantasy mingling very happily with fact within these pages.
A very special thanks to "Talin" for sharing his wonderful photo's of actual castle interiors with all of us as well as to Ian Jolly of the Bardsey Island Trust, all the web site authors, historians, Sara Schwager and archaeologists who helped me collect the information and present it here.  A special Links Section just for Camelot is under construction now.

I do hope that you will enjoy Future Heirlooms Camelot and that you will continue to dream of castles, knights, dragons and the Round Table as you stitch your quilts.  Beyond that, I hope your curiosity will lead you to find more about Camelot and pass it on to the next generation along with your quilts.
